A strong Abu Garcia spinning reel, like the Revo SX will balance most setups perfectly and be able to stand up against the inevitable dip in the river. The slightly heavier weight also comes in handy for longer rods designed specifically for lake-run fish. For bigger lake-run fish they hold up well and have the added line capacity for longer runs and bigger rivers.
I like the 10-size reel for most trout fishing but the 20 and even 30 sizes have their place too. The drag system is incredibly smooth and easily handles light lines with low start-up inertia, making it hard to break off fish.
